Sunday 8th June - Sea Kayak Explorers Trip Updated.

A provisional notice of an explorers trip in June. Location to be confirmed nearer the time when we can see what the weather is doing. If the weather allows I would like to aim for the South Hams near Burgh Island launching Challaborough or Salcombe or Averton Gifford. Open to all who have spent time on the sea. Numbers will depend on whether other leaders or experienced paddlers sign up. If you needs help with boats or space on roof racks please try to coordinate in advance.

My provisional plan (subject to final weather forecast) to leave 1 car at Averton Gifford and then all launch from Chalaborough. We can head out to explore. Burgh Island before heading over to Hope cove. Then a bit more exploring before following the tide up the river Avon to Averton Gifford to finish. The current forecast is still predicting big seas and so we might need to flex in the week if conditions are beyond both the groups and my capabilities.

Plan B it’s to Launch from Salcombe North Ssnds if the swell looks too big for Chsllaborough.

  • I’m potentially interested but will confirm closer to the time
  • I'm interested

  • I would like to come along

  • Hi, yes I’m interested.
  • I’m definitely able to go now- so count me in
  • All. We will need to continue to watch the weather forecast. Some shitty weather coming through this week but it is currently showing as clearing by Sunday. Windguru is still showing 1.5m - 2m swell with gusts up F5. Interestingly the wind is from the NW so we should be able to find shelter on East facing coast.
  • I would be keen

  • I'd like to come along please, if there's room for one more

  • Hi, sorry but I can’t do this trip now as something came up which I can’t change.

  • All. My plan is to stick to Plan A and to launch from Challaborough and end the Day at Averton Gifford. It will involve a bit of a car shuttle. The best plan would be to meet at Challaborough. Offload boats and then take all cars back to Averton Gifford returning in one car back to the beach. We are not in a rush to launch because high tide is not until 5.00pm and we will not be able to land at AG until after 3.30pm. Can we aim to be at the beach car park for 9.30? (There is about 0.9m of swell so will be a bit bumpy around the Island but ok at Hope Cove. Best forecast I can see is about F3. So all ok for the group) rich I will text you about car sharing.
  • Hi all. Rich and I are car sharing from Exmouth. Will leave you all your coordinate boats and car shares.
  • I'm travelling from Exeter, if anyone wants a lift say.
  • Normally more than happy to share. For future reference live just quite close to DC showground can take my boat + 1
However tomorrow need to visit relative in Teignmouth after the paddle so will go under my own steam.

  • I can call in to the Club on the way at 08.15 if anyone wants a lift. I can take another 2 kayaks and passengers so happy to give Dave a lift. Christina - do you want a lift too? Either from Exeter or from my house?

  • I'm sorted thanks Nigel, all loaded and will go straight from home
  • A lift would be great please Nigel. Will need to get a boat from the club too. I'll message you directly. Thanks

  • Thanks Owen and everyone, great trip
  • Thanks all - I will sleep tonight!

  • Thanks Owen for leading trip and everyone for great day out
