Bank Holiday Monday 26 May sea kayak trip UPDATED * 2

Plan is for a trip for paddlers ready for their first trip on the sea. Weather dependant. More experienced paddlers are welcome, particularly if you can help with transport.

This trip is looking tricky, the weather forecast is for strong winds: F5 gusting F6 from the West. The only option will be to going to an estuary, and I am thinking of the Dart as it provides some shelter from the west. Please can paddlers look at the weather forecast and decide whether they want to paddle with these conditions. I'll then make a plan.

Final decision: It is really quite windy on Monday, with up to F6 winds. A sea kayak award paddler is expected to paddle in F3 winds so this tells you how much stronger it will be. The trip will be from Kingswear which will give us some shelter, but it is not possible to be sheltered all the time. If you come on this trip you need to be able to paddle in strong winds. If you decide that the day bis too much for you please can you update on this thread.

Because the roads near the slipway are very narrow we need to take as few cars as possible. Meet 8.15am at the club , or 9.30am at the small slipway near the yacht club near the lower ferry.

Max 8 people, this may increase depending on who signs up.

I would like to join, but don’t have transport for me or my boat- so will wait to see who else signs up 😊
  • Yes please. Can help with transport
  • Richard I think Chris and Katherine are planning to come. It would be great if you could link up with them as they live in Exmouth.

  • I'd like to join if possible
  • I'd like to come please. Can help with boat transport if needed.

  • I'm interested in coming as well depending on sign ups from new people

  • Hi Jane, we can't make it unfortunately, we've got a family thing that weekend and the suggestion of leaving early wasn't well received 😂
  • I would like to come too. Any idea where we would paddle?

  • Hi, I’d like to come along.

  • I can help with transport for whoever needs it.

Sounds like a good plan Jane! 👍
  • Can I come? I can give a lift from the Club

  • Yes Nigel I have added you to the trip.

  • Thank you for the update Jane on the wind. I'm not sure about my own strength to paddle in F6 so I will sit this one out.
  • It looks like there is plenty of transport from the club, so I will go directly there

  • Hi Jane, thanks for the update. I think F6 wind is too much- would love to try one day- but maybe need to do some F3 trips and get my confidence up in stronger winds! ☺️ I will sit this one out too. see you Tuesday 👍

Thank you everyone for all the offers of transport as well ☺️ very grateful! Have a lovely day all! 👍
  • I haven’t been out on the sea much this year, so I don’t think jumping straight into a Force 6 would be the best idea for me. Looks like I’ll sit this one out too. Thanks!

  • I’ll meet at the club. Happy to take another person and boat or jump in with someone else
  • I think it best if I drop out. I’m not confident in that level of wind. Enjoy !
  • I'm sorry, but I have bruised my hand gardening, and so am going to drop out

  • Hi, I’ll meet at the club house at 8.15am.

  • Great venture out to sea today with some big F6 gusts. Thanks Jane.
