Monday 21 April sea kayak trip UPDATED - Final decision

There will be a trip on Monday for paddlers who have quite a bit of experience on the sea. This would suit paddlers who are working towards sea kayak award. We can go through the various skills. More experienced paddlers welcome too.

Initial plan: Wind and swell from the West for post of the day. I am thinking of launching at Challaborough and going West, so that we go in to the wind and can be blown / swept home. It would be helpful if the wind drops a bit. Please check the forum on Sunday evening to see the confirmed plan.

For people thinking of SK award please look at the tide times , weather and swell forecast for Monday.

Final plan
meet 8.15 at the club or 9.45am at Challaborough.

Max 8 people
Booked
Jane
Jo
Martin
Connor
Catherine
Nigel
Richard
Dave

I can take Catherine and Connor and SK.

I would like to come along if possible please and use the mv avocet

If possible could I have a lift please with the boat

  • Yes please
  • I'd be interested
  • yes please! Can anyone give me and a boat a lift?

  • Yes please, is it possible to get a lift for me and my boat?
  • I would like to join you. If the location is west of Okehampton, I would go direct, but if I pass Exeter, I would be happy to call into the Club and can carry 2 extra kayaks and paddlers

  • I’d like to join provided I’m not taking the place of somebody working towards SK award. I can offer a lift from the club.
  • Hi, I am sorry I won’t be able to make it. Got too bad hip pain! Hope you all have a fabulous time! 👍
  • If there's a spot free I'd quite like to join pls
  • Hi Dave
There's lots of support, so yes you can join the trip.

  • I will call by the Club on the way, and can give 2 more people a lift

  • Hi Nigel, I wonder if you might have a few minutes to look at the MV Avocet with me in the morning please.

I used it today and the plastic foot rests slip and the deck lines are too tight to get the paddle under for a paddle float. Any ideas would be really welcome
  • Jo - I will try to arrive 15 minutes early to have a look at the Avocet. I can't promise that I will fix it before the paddle. I can't picture what type of plastic footpegs it has, but we may be able to bodge them for the day so that they don't slip. After the paddle, I will bring it home and sort both issues during the week.

  • Nigel, that is really kind. Thank you. I'll be there at 8am
  • Thank you Jane for a fab day's paddle! Amazing area!.
  • Thanks all for a good day!
