Sunday 20th April Sea UPDATE Kayak Explorers Trip Camel Estuary

Launching upstream of Wadebridge and finishing at Daymer bay. This is a river and estuary paddle exploring the creaks, Padstow harbour and heading out to Hawkers cove before landing at Daymer bay. Some big weather this weekend but the wind and tide currently look good for a Camel estuary paddle on Sunday. We need to meet at 10.00 am in Wadebridge with an aim to be on the water by 10.30. High tide 10.20 so with us all the way. Please bring all your normal sea kit plus a trolly if you have one. It can be a long carry across the sand at Daymer.

Launch Point Update - Wadebridge Skipway

I have checked the planned launch point in Bishops Wood and unfortunately there are at least 3 trees blocking the river and with all the rain the river is running too fast to be safe in sea kayaks. The updated plan is to launch at the slipway in Wadebridge. All day parking right by the slipway. I will put the location and parking details in the chat below. The wind and weather forecast has improved and we should have much more scope to explore the mouth of the estuary between Hawkers Bay and Pentire Point once we have paddled down the river.

Please bring all normal gear needed for a day on the sea plus water and packed lunch. There is a cafe at the get out point in Daymer bay. I would plan to be off the water by about 3.00 - 3.30 so with a bit of a car shuttle at the end of the day depart Daymer at about 4.30pm or later if we drop into the cafe. Trolleys are good because it is a wide beach at low water. I have two in my car.

  • Hi Owen, is this instead of a Saturday trip or is Jane still running Saturday and Monday? I would like to come on one or two of the trips, but need a lift so maybe need to wait to see what happens with all the trips so can work it out ☺️
  • Count me in please. I'll already be in Cornwall for the week, so will meet you there.

  • Evelyn. Currently separate. We were trying to coordinate but wind and tides were not being helpful. Please continue to watch this thread because I might yet adapt this trip is the forecast changes significantly
  • Thanks Owen, I will keep an eye on all the threads! I am looking forward to paddling when ever works for everyone ☺️ sounds like an Amazing trip! 👍👍
  • Hi Owen, I'd be interested, will see how trip develops. I haven't tested my roof rack yet so may need help with a boat from someone. But happy to offer car etc
  • Connor. You will need to use this thread to see if you can arrange help with the boat and lift share etc. in my mind you need to meet at 8.00 and leave by 8.30 (I am not able to help. I will already be in Cornwall and will travel direct) I would estimate circa 1hr 30mins to drive to Wadebridge from the club with boats on the roof.
  • I would like to join too please.

  • If there ends up being someone going past the club I would be interested in coming? If someone has ability to fit my boat on their car? Etc
  • I can Evelyn as I will pick up a lighter boat.

  • Thanks Owen no worries, I'll need to withdraw from this one but hopefully is a good trip for everyone 🙂
  • I'll join the trip. I can take 2 people and SK.

  • Could I tentatively join please - a lift with the MV Avocet if I could borrow that one, would be great - but Connor first in line with a lift if he still wants to go
  • Jane, is it ok to come with you?
  • Jo I can't attend due to family plans now so go for it :)
  • Jo yes I can help. 8am at the club.

  • Hi, I am sorry I won’t be able to make it. Got too bad hip pain! Hope you all have a fabulous time! 👍
  • Jane, Evelyn is no longer coming. Would your old fibreglass boat be suitable? I will meet you at the club at 8 as I will need help getting it on the roof rack.
  • Owen thanks for the update.
  • Thanks Connor and feel better soon Evelyn. See you at the club tomorrow Jane👍
  • Thank you for a great paddle trip Owen. Sorry you didn’t get your ice cream. 🍦

  • Lovely day, and thank you and Liz for providing the shuttles.

  • Lovely day, thank you Owen for organising and also a big thank you to the drivers🙂
