Whitewater Kayak Trip Sunday 22 October

Planning a trip for this Sunday. Which river will be decided nearer the time but looking at the forecast at moment is likely to be on the Exe from Bolham to Bickleigh.

The trip will be suitable for beginners but there will be a limit of six people who haven't paddled a white water river before. Please indicate if this applies to you. Other more experienced paddlers are also welcome and we will decide on total numbers depending on the experience of who signs up and available transport ect.

If there is anybody under 18 wishing to come you will need to be driven to river and collected by a parent or guardian.

We'll meet at the club for 8.30am to sort kit and transport. Club whitewater boats can be used for this trip. Helmets, spray decks and buoyancy aids are also available.

Temperatures are dropping and warm paddling kit is essential, thermal base layers with a paddling cag and waterproof trousers as a minimum. Wet suits with a wind proof top also fine. Remember a change of warm clothing to change into after paddling. Also a hot drink and snacks.

Please reply to this post if interested and indicate if you are able to transport boats or need transport.

Any questions, please ask.
Thanks, Paul

I'm hoping to make this trip..

Sorry should have said I've been a couple times.a few.years back so be a beginner...
  • Yes please, have previous experience

  • Hi paul
Im keen to join and I'm happy to take a boat for myself

  • Hi Paul, count me in 👍 previous experience. Thanks for organising.
  • I would like to come if there is still a beginner space please.

  • Bummer!
    Somebody booked me holiday🥴
    Hopefully the surf will improve!
    See you all next time!
  • I'd like to come. It's north of me though, so it would be better not to have to drive an hour into Exeter and then back out again. I think I probably count as a complete beginner (I think there's still space?). I have an old beat up necky jive I could use and bring myself, but it only has one airbag. And I'd probably need a club paddle.
  • Hi, Laura, you're welcome to join us. Maggie, would you be comfortable in your Necky, doesn't look to be a particularly beginner friendly boat. Is there a boat from the club you would prefer? as we maybe able to bring it with us. Definitely need two air bags but again we could bring one, along with a paddle.
  • Sorry, I'd love to but I'm booked up...next time!
  • Thanks Paul. I know I fit in the diesel from the club. I can't remember which other ones, it's been so long since I went on a river. I got the necky for small beach surf really. I can bring it if you're not sure about a club boat.
  • Would have liked to do this but I am doing the SUP Award with Susan

  • There's a road closure on the A396 at Ashley, between Bickleigh and Tiverton.

  • That's a pain but looks like there is a reasonably okay diversion around it if we paddle that section but I'll confirm this evening where we are going to paddle.
  • We will paddle Bolham to Bickleigh, as every where else will be low by the morning. For those going straight there, we will meet at Bickleigh Mill around 9.15
  • Cool will be at the club first thing to get kit..
  • Brilliant, I’ll see you at the club at 08:30
  • I'll go straight there. If you bring me a boat, could you add a spray deck as well as a paddle, please, just in case mine doesn't fit. Thanks.
  • Great I will be at the club at 8:30
  • On Google maps satellite view it looks like there are three different car parks close to the river... Where will you be?
  • The car park is in Bickleigh Mill. Turn in to the mill and turn right under the old railway bridge, it is the village car park
  • Maggie - What3words ///hinders.meal.crunching

  • I will bring my car but will need help putting on boats please.

  • Thanks for a super trip

  • Just wanted to thank all of the leaders for a fantastic trip today! Great fun!!!
  • Thanks had a great day..
