Sunday 17 July sea kayak skills session on the sea UPDATED * 3

There will be a sea kayak skills session on Sunday 17 July. This session is aimed at the paddlers who have been on the recent and current Explore SK course, and also the people who have been paddling on Friday evenings. The plan is to have a get wet session in the morning, covering support strokes, deep water rescues, self rescues, other types of rescues eg creating a stirrup. People can then finish, or we can continue in the afternoon with a journey.
You will get wet, so a wet suit or similar is recommended. The afternoon group may wish to bring dry clothes for the afternoon. Suncream is essential. HW Exmouth Exmouth 10.20am.

It is forecast to be moderately windy on Sunday so we will go to a sheltered location. Meet 8am at the club to load boats, or 8.45am at the ** car park at at Exmouth, near the lifeboat station. EX8 2DP. ** We cannot use the Imperial slipway as there is a circus there.

It is an early start because the weather will be warm, and the car parks are likely to be busy early on.

Please be quiet when loading boats, as the club is in a residential area and it will be early on a Sunday morning.

More experienced paddlers are welcome to come along and assist. In particular help with transport would be appreciated.

If you wish to come along please sign up by replying to this thread, and say what you need re transport of boats. I have allocated the boats as we will be using all of them. Please do not collect boats before 4pom on Saturday as club members may wish to use club boats on Saturday.

  • Hi Darren, yes you can use a club boat. It looks like we will need 15 club boats, and you should be alright as you want a large boat.

Nigel, any chance you could bring your Scorpio?
Also can people bring paddle floats if they have them so people can try self rescues.
