Sunday 9 March sea kayak trip UPDATED * 3

Sea kayak trip on Sunday 9 March. If the wind is F3 or more it will be a fitness paddle, with an increase in pace / distance.

Wind forecast is def for more than F3 with significant swell. I plan to go to one of the larger estuaries so we can obtain some shelter, and then go for a fitness paddle. I am away until Friday evening so I'll work out where is best when I get back. It is HW c 14.30 and I would like to paddle without a shuttle but it will take a bit of working out. Please only come on the trip if you are able to paddle at a faster pace than the usual club paddles.

Final decision
I've spent ages trying to work out where to go. It is F4 gusting F5 from the East with 1.3m swell at 10s so a sea trip is not viable. It is also HW Dartmouth at 14.29, which indicates a one way trip, but shuttles are tedious. However if Nigel is coming then we might make this work. St Budeaux to Calstock doesn't work as the train times are not favourable.

Option 1: Meet at Totnes for Nigel to leave his car for the shuttle, then drive to Kingswear, and paddle back to Totnes. Adv: a more attractive paddle, with some benefit from the wind, and some shelter.
Option 2: Meet at Generals Lane, Starcross. A more robust paddle with strong winds and little shelter. Adv: not so far to drive. Dis: some will be against the tide which could be hard work.

Please can you reply and say if you are going to come, and which option you would prefer.

Option 1 it is. Meet 8.15amat the club, or 9.15am at Steamer Quay car park at Totnes. We can collect Nigel and his boat and then drive to Kingswear.

    I am not so good at the distance and pace part. So will see what happens with weather etc and what everyone wants. Don’t want to hold everyone back. Let’s see what the week brings or I will come another time. Thanks Jane 👍

    My preferred option is Kingswear / Totnes.

    Great. Is is ok to come down with you Jane please? My engine is leaking coolant so the garage is keeping it until they can identify where the leak is. Coming down by train this evening .
