Sea kayak Sat 11 Jan UPDATED x2
UPDATE 2. Folks, having been paddling at Meadfoot this morning I'm changing the location for Saturday to Plymouth Sound. We will go from the Mountbatten slip way. Let's aim to meet at 10. The car park at the slipway gives 40mins free for unloading and there is usually free parking on the road. https://maps.app.goo.gl/YUZXKitHDqC4bhbq9
There are loos a bit further down the road, but in my experience they are sometimes shut, so I recommend a preemptive stop at a supermarket on the way, if you think you'll be more comfortable that way.
Owen has cancelled. I'm assuming Rich is bringing himself, and that Steve and Ceri will still meet at the club and car share. I will go direct. I imagine Nigel might too. I think everyone on this paddle has my contact details, so feel free to message me with any questions.
UPDATE 1 Light winds on Saturday, but a substantial underlying swell from SW. With this group we'll need a bit of shelter, so Torbay area. Let's meet at Meadfoot at 09:45 for a decision. If a launch/landing there is looking uncomfortable but a paddle looks feasible then the fall back is launch from the harbour, with parking at Beacon Quay CP (see below). If the sea overall looks too 'muscular' then Plan C is Brixham, but I know a couple of people have done that recently.
LOGISTICS
Meadfoot has charging toilets at the Torquay end of the beach. Free parking.
Beacon Quay CP has a barrier, but some spaces before you need to go through, and some cars fit under. I believe you can drive down to the quay and drop boats off too.
Brixham option would probably be Freshwater Quay, it's not expensive in winter. Toilets charged and a five mins walk away.
KIT
The usual sea kit please, as specified on the club website, incl. a helmet for if we're near rocks in a swell. Food, warm clothes, hot drink, sense of humour.... A trolley is useful, especially if we can't drive down to Beacon Quay. Not planning any wet exercises, but dress for potential immersion.

QUESTION Anyone going via the club on Saturday? If not, I'll get a boat for Ceri on Friday. Car sharing encouraged.
ORIGINAL POST if the current prediction for settled weather holds, I'll try to put on a paddle on Saturday 11 Jan. Location TBC depending on weather. Style/level guided by who signs up. Max 4 plus me unless other leaders join. Some experience on the sea needed. Post if you're interested.

Depending on the proposed location, I will be happy to call in at the Club and help with transport if necessary. As I live in Okehampton, if it is massively out of my way, I probably wouldn't help
The boat that Evelyn likes to use is the yellow Avocet LV, that is on the single rack at the bottom below my boat. Its skeg is stuck and we couldn't free it last weekend. When we washed the boats we didn't make any progress. Please could Nigel or Rich have a look at it. We couldn't see any string, or jammed pebbles. You are likely to need some tools, eg a v thin metal ruler to slide down the side for any jammed pebbles that are far down. Alternatively a strong but very small hook to poke under the end of the skeg to lever the skeg down. Another option might be to work out how to put some string through the hole and then pull it down. Thank you for your efforts in trying to fix this.
Nigel- could you have a look at the skeg on Saturday morning if you go to the club and Evelyn is hoping to use the boat? If you can’t fix it or if it’s taking too long then she will need to try a different boat and I can drop by the club next week to have a look at it. Thanks
I will try and have a look at the yellow Avocet tomorrow afternoon. I will call by the Club and should have the yellow Avocet with me, and can carry 3 kayaks including myself.
So slightly less rush for the skeg repair, but Nigel's help will be much appreciated. Can I suggest Ceri might meet Steve at the club on Saturday and car share / pick up a boat? Does that work? Ceri needs a helmet and spray deck too.

I have the yellow Avocet at home having repaired the skeg today. I will come via the Club toorrow morning to drop it off for the Sunday trip. I would prefer not to give a lift to others, as it gives me the option to come home direct from Plymouth
