Beach Clean Up - all trips

Hi all. We were out Kayaking today between Kingswear and Brixham. We were shocked by the amount of broken plastic on our lunch beach. We had 4 shopping bags between us in our boats. We filled them all litter picking and barely scratched the surface. It we all did it every time we stopped on these beaches we would make an impact. Black bags would be too big to get in a hatch but if we all get into the habit of bring two shopping bags each, every time we go paddling and do a litter pick when we stop for lunch we will make an impact over a season. We were in a cove under Collaton Fishacre with no footpath access which is why we think this beach was worse than normal.

  • I'm not sure what the size is, but I found the smaller white bin bags fit the oval hatch on the Scorpio reasonably well, they just needed squishing down to close the hatch. I can get another roll so I can give them out as-needed.

A friend from Paignton has a deck net he uses for bottles & cans and other odds and ends and he recommends it; it's easy to access and allows them to drain. I haven't looked at buying one yet myself but should do.

I've been thinking of organising a canal/river pick from the club. Probably June since I'm away for a lot of the remaining May.
  • Great idea, I am sure everyone would help in some way.
