The River Axe Race is a friendly small event for pretty much any paddled craft that can handle a bit of river and estuary. The route starts 5 mi south of Axminster and includes 4 mi of twisting river with very gentle (read: shallow) rapids followed by a final mile of open estuary, finishing at Axmouth harbour in Seaton. There are classes for canoe single or tandem, sea kayak, short kayak, SUP (although note any restrictions on borrowing club SUPs), sit-on kayak, racing kayak, etc. Last year, classes were anything from 1-12 boats and it took about an hour, although SUPs took a bit longer due to the wind blowing in the unhelpful direction.
Entry is £15 on the day or £10 in advance. On the day, you quickly drop your boat and kit at the start and register, then drive to the finish for free parking and a shuttle service back to the top. Afterwards, there are changing facilities/showers, loading at the slipway, and refreshments at the AVCC clubhouse.

I haven't decided what boat I'm taking yet. I'm thinking a sea kayak as it's easier to transport on my own and there was just one solo canoe last year (lots more tandems.) If so, I'll have room on my roof for another one if anyone wants a lift.
Reminder on this one - I'm taking a sea kayak so can give someone a lift from Exeter
