There will be a FSRT course on Sunday 24 July, run by Brian. It will be held at the club, times to be advised.
This training course is a pre-requisite for the Paddlesport Instructor course.
Priority is given for people who are signed up for the PI course on 6/7 August.
Next priority is for people who would like to sign up the next PI course, that is likely to be during the Autumn.
Other club members are welcome to sign up and be on the reserve list.
Cost will be £5 for BC members, £10 for non BC members.
If you would like to do the course on 24 July, please sign up below. Max 6 places.

I'm interested as a reserve
Hi Martin
Can you tell us which Martin you are. Are you Martin L who paddled on Friday evening?
Hi Jane, yes I'm MartinL. I've asked webmaster@ to change my username or delete and reinvite me so I can join as MartinL to avoid confusion
The course will start at 9am, at the club. Brian will provide more details shortly.
Thank you Jane for organising this course in my absence and thank you to Mike for agreeing to help me. I'm home now so sorry for my silence while I was away!
Aspiring Coaches need to complete this training and it is an ideal next step for those who have completed the explore course in any discipline (old 2*) or are of a similar standard and can paddle another craft. I think all who have signed up know this already?
The course is well suited to those who have completed training with the club and can accurately and quickly position their craft where it is needed. We will use a variety of canoes, kayaks and sups. Participants will have the opportunity to try various techniques to establish what works best for them!
Safety = avoiding mishaps
Rescue = dealing with mishaps
This is a BC recognised course.
The course will go ahead in all but the worst weather conditions, and I don't anticipate bad weather on Sunday! You will need to be prepared and dressed to be in and out of the water without getting excessively cold. We will have access to the changing rooms and I will keep as much as I can of the getting wet activity until the end of the day. You should also bring flasks of hot drinks.
You should bring safety related kit you already own or can borrow but don't buy any before the course. I will have a selection of kit for you to use so you can then decide what best suits your needs before committing to buying kit!
There is no charge for the course but there is a BC registration fee of £5 for current British Canoeing members or £10 for non members. You will need to prove your current membership to qualify for the lower fee but I can hold off registration for anyone joining BC at the time.
As Jane says above, I plan to run this training on Sunday 24 July, at the club. We need to start promptly at 9am and will finish around 5pm. It will be a packed day, starting upstairs in the classroom then outdoors for the rest of the day.
Please book via webcollect where you should pay the relevant BC certification fee. It is £5 for BC members and £10 for those who aren't BC members.

Thanks for your patience and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Brian.
I'm able to step in as reserve
It's a shame you have to drop out Liz but good news for Tom!
Please everyone, book and pay via Webcollect....
The course notes and syllabus for this training can be found at:
https://www.britishcanoeingawarding.org.uk/safety-sheltered-water-resources/ and there are videos covering various rescue methods at . Please familiarise yourself with the contents of both addresses before attending the course. That way, you stand to derive the most benefit from the training.
That webcollect link doesn't work for me - says I can't access it
Ah, I found it here: https://webcollect.org.uk/exetercc/event/foundation-safety-and-rescue-training-sunday-24-july-2022
Thank you @Brian_Thomas for today and to everyone else for making it a great day. In light of the feedback this afternoon re the upcoming PI course and the need for practice, (having checked) I can make myself available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (Fri as already planned) and Saturday. I think this ties in with @MikeB apart from Wednesday (let us know Mike what you're happy to do!). I am aware that Tuesday evening has been pretty busy recently so not sure on this but I'm available. I can commit to a couple of these evenings and definitely Saturday and probably the same again next week obviously bar Saturday. Let me know who's up for getting out and when. (not sure Emma is tagged in this @d9wall @TomDufall @Martin @ShelleyRhodes)
I'm available on thurs if we agree something and I'll be there on Fri regardless to either practice or do the regular paddle.
I can do any
@d9wall I can't do Tuesday orweds as already committed
I am happy to come and help on Tues eve, Fri eve and Saturday. However I am really only any good at SK.
Thank you for email @MikeB, very helpful, and for your offer of help and @JaneEvans too.
I know we have already planned Friday so lets we stick with that as a definite. (Duncan, might be an idea to keep up with your courses as you will no doubt be developing skills).
I can do Thursday and Saturday as well if we think we need both, and it's not too much?! How do people feel?
Provisionally we have (please confirm);
Thursday: Martin, Duncan, Tom, Steve
Friday: Martin, Duncan, Tom, Steve and I think Shelley.
Saturday: Martin, Duncan, Steve
(I can do morning and/or afternoon Saturday)
Given the number of rescue combinations, the number of us, and the need to practice each rescue a few times in order to get it automatic and really slick, I doubt we'll get through everything in an evening session.
I suggest we do Friday evening as you say and then regroup on Saturday morning for more practice. This gives about 2hr on Friday and up to 8hr on Saturday. If all of that is on the water, then that already gives us 2 - 3x the water hours we had on Sunday. We can always cut Saturday short if the time is not needed.
If more time is needed, there's always next week as well... Often it helps to have a gap between sessions for things to 'sink' in.
As an aside, I live an hour from Exeter so prefer fewer but longer sessions to limit the miles
That works for me Martin. Fri and a good session on Saturday - followed by a session or two next week
Perfect
I can do Mon and Wed next week
If it's okay, I'll try and join you guys on Friday 29th evening and Saturday 30th morning.
As discussed in-person with a few people the other day, I'm now planning to use Thurs for some general paddling and do rescue practice Fri and Sat.
