Weather permitting, I will run a white water kayak trip alongside the Canoe trip already advertised.
Beginner level again, we will spend a bit of time looking at and honing some skills. You need to have completed a couple of club short boat courses and be competent at making your boat go where you ask it to! If in doubt, contact me and we can discuss.
While I have no plans to conduct capsize or rescue drills, you must recognise that a swift chat with the fish is a distinct possibility so dress accordingly and bring spare clothes, some to carry in your dry bag in your boat and some to have with your towel in the car at the finish! If you aren't sure, ask! The club doesn't have or provide any clothing but I can offer advice on what is and isn't adequate!
Plan is to meet at the club at 8.30 to load boats. Recommend carrying a spare paddle if you have one that splits small enough to fit inside your boat, I will bring 2. Helmets lunch, including a hot drink, and warm, windproof layers are essential.
Plan will be to meet at the pull in just after the layby and bridgeon the road from Buckfastleigh to Totnes.
Initial part of paddle will be some coaching, Looking at Eddies, breaking in, breaking out, ferry gliding, looking at what the water is doing (pathways etc.). then lunch, then we will push on down to the get out.
The get out involves a fairly long walk after a challenging dismount. I will be able to help you get out and I will have trolleys in my car as we can't fit them in our boats.
Forecast is still looking at 18mph gusting 30mph (5-7 beaufort) at Buckfastleigh (at time of writing), but being on the river, we may be below this?
River level is looking ok.
Will update again tomorrow evening. Please post if planning to come.
As always, the club does not arrange transport for people or boats but you are encouraged to car share where possible to minimise conjestion and pollution. That said, consider Covid precautions, especially mask wearing in shared cars.
On a personal level, I will have space on/in my car for two additional kayaks and their paddlers as long as they are at least double jabbed and symptom free.
Maximum 4 places plus me, more if other leaders/coaches join us.

Thanks so much for organising, Brian. It's the one day I can't make but would love to join on the next one.
Brian. It is about time I got the short boat out again to see if I can keep it upright. If numbers are limited by all mean prioritise others.
As the beginners don't seem to be keen for tomorrow please may I come.
I'd like to come please Brian. I'll bring my car as I've got a cold (covid-19 PCR and lateral flows negative; triple vaccinated), so don't want to give it to anyone else. I'll need club equipment, so will meet you at the club at 08:30. Thanks
Owen yes please. Boat is here
Owen, Jane and Christina,
All is good for tomorrow, as far as I can tell now!
I will meet Christina at the club to 'kit her out' at 0830.
I am guessing we will be at the get in for about 0930 and will see Owen and Jane there?
I am turning this trip into a taster for 3 potential new members of the club. I have chatted with one of them, they can all handle their kayaks and have paddled this section before. They will meet us at the get in. There are 5 of them but I have restricted the taster to 3 and will make another opportunity available to the others.
