With the nights drawing in, Friday night polo is a bit too dark. So seeing if this works on a Sunday after.

No special skills required or expected, you just need to be happy getting out of your boat if you capsize.

No prior polo experience is needed. Be prepared to get wet and ensure that shoes and other items on your person are firmly attached. Play will stop if anyone capsizes, so there’s no need to be able to roll to take part. Helmets are required and can be borrowed from the club.

We’ll aim to be on the water for 4pm, so you'll need to get there a bit before to sort boats out.

River Dart trip social kayak adventure. Saturday 26th September

I’m going to run another river trip on Dart after the success of the last one.
This will be very similar to the last one but the tides are going the opposite way in our favor though.
Meeting up at the club house at the clubhouse at 8.30am to load up. Arrive at Stoke Gabriel by 10.15am and launch by 10.45am at the latest.
We’ll then paddle south down river stopping at the nice cafe at Galmpton creek, maybe for lunch if anyone is interested but may need to book in advance. Or carry on down river to Dartmouth for a lunch stop.
When the tide turns we’ll paddle back to Stoke Gabriel to finish around 3.30pm when there’s enough water to land.
This is a fairly long day out with several stops but at a leisurely pace.
Again, this is weather dependent and if there’s more than six people interested we will need to have additional leaders and vehicles to assist.
Open to all kayakers, short, long and open but no SUPS unfortunately unless the weather is very calm.

River Dart touring paddle Sunday 6th September 2026

I’m planning to run a touring/exploring paddle on 6th September starting from Stoke Gabriel. This is focussing on new paddlers who have done any of the beginners courses and would like to do a trip on a local river. The plan is to start at Stoke Gabriel leaving on the water at around 11am, paddle down to Dittisham and stop for small break. Then paddle back up river and explore Bow creek to see how far we can get up there based on the low tides and mud. Then explore a little further up river. Height tide is at 1401 hrs and there’s not too much flow rate so we can stay out as long as people are comfortable to do so.
Maximum of 6 people or more if any leaders are interested in coming along. This is weather dependent of course but it should be a nice day out . For those who need transportation, I can offer up to 5 passengers with kit and we would need to meet at the club house around 9am.
Please let me know who is interested so I can work out the logistics.
For beginners there will be guidance and advice given throughout the whole process from loading kayaks, launching and paddling tips.
This is also open to all club members and any type of kayak except open canoe unless the paddler can transport it themselves. SUPS are also welcome but they need to be deflated for transport.

We haven't run out of light yet. Meet approx. 1800 to be on the water for 1815.

Heritage Harbour day - 2027

Hi all,

Its a bit short notice to organise for 2026, but I was thinking for 2027 we run some activities (Harbour authority are in principle supportive of initial ideas).

My initial thoughts are things like-
Cardboard boat race. Juniors/adults?,
Home made raft race,
Raft race using materials on site (may need to get buy in and use of Haven Banks materials?).
Best Pirate ship decorated Canoe/ Kayak (and race?)
Best Pirate dressed Paddler
Best dressed pirate.

I have mentioned to AS Watersports and KayakHub and they are in principle with the idea and would promote etc.

Is anyone in the club interested in helping with planning/organising this?

Bank holiday Monday 31 August SK trip from Kingswear

The weather is due to be a bit calmer on Monday, so there will be a SK trip from Kingswear. This trip is suitable for people who are experienced SK award paddlers and above, who are comfortable paddling in swell of more than 1 metre, and in F5 winds. It is likely that we will spend time paddling near the mouth of the estuary, making our way west in the shelter of the cliffs and then trying downwind runs before returning to the shelter of the estuary. We will look at the conditions on the day and decide what we can reasonably achieve.

Meet 9.45am at the Kingswear small slipway near the yacht club. I expect that no-one will need to go to the club, but reply to say if you are.

August Bank Holiday Weekend 29-31 August Falmouth SK trip CANCELLED

There will be a sea kayak weekend in Falmouth. There will be various trips offered each day, according to the weather conditions and what people want to do. To come on this trip you need to be at Explore standard or above, and to be able to paddle a minimum of 8 miles a day. This is an ideal trip for new club sea kayakers.
Please also make sure that you have found a comfortable boat, and that you have made a note of which boat it is.

Sea kayaking with trips for all standards. The only requirement is that we meet at 9am each morning to plan the trips for the day. I expect that people will start arriving at the campsite on Friday evening from c 5pm, but that is for each person to decide for themselves. There are good beaches at Swanpool and Maenporth within half a mile of the campsite.
Camping: I have booked us into the campsite and we will pay cash £13.50 pppn when we are there. Please bring cash for the campsite and for parking. National Trust cards are useful if you are a member as they have some car parks. If you want an elec hookup or a caravan space please book directly.

Some of the boats are quite popular. If you have been allocated a boat but may not paddle all three days please can you arrange for the boat to be available for other paddlers on days when you will not use it. This applies to the avocets Lv, the Atlantics Lv, virgo and possibly the sportives.

Note that it is LW at lunchtime so it is not practical to us the estuaries in the same way as we did two years ago.

If you are no longer planning to come on the trip please let us know via the forum.

8.15am at the club or 9.15am at Brixham Oxen Cove Car park, TQ5 8AY. Drive to the far end of the car park where there is a slipway for unloading.

Plan is to go around Berry Head, and back. Also skills practice.
SKA includes weather forecast, tides etc so please look up the weather, tides, swell forecast for the day.

We can expect to be back at Brixham around 3pm, and at the club c 4.30pm.
Max 6 people, unless more experienced paddlers join.

I'm planning some rescue practice meeting at Teignmouth back beach at 6:30 pm this Wednesday with an aspirant sea kayak leader from another club. We hope to practice rescues and scenarios in the F4-5 wind. If you'd like to join this friends trip, please sign up. I plan to pick up a boat from the club at about 5:40.

This is some advanced notice that I plan to put on a sea kayak trip this Saturday, probably from Meadfoot. It'll be neap tides and the forecast is looking quite benign at the moment, but will wait for the forecast closer to the time to decide the exact plans, see if club leaders will join and if it will be suitable for beginners or not. If you'd like to come in theory, please post below. I aim to update on Wed/Thurs when the forecast will be more reliable.

Update:
The weather forecast still looks good - easterly wind F2-4; up to 0.8 m waves at 4-5 s. We'll stick with Meadfoot, meeting at 09:30 by the steps down to the beach from the middle of Meadfoot Sea Road. As a club leader has signed up, this can be a club trip and is suitable for beginners. We'll also be joined by 2 ex-club members too, so there are 2 more spaces available to give a maximum of 6 paddlers. Please sign up if you'd like to come.

Another non-club member joining, so this has now changed to a friends trip

Sea Kayak Sunday 16th August Exercise Paddle Exmouth

The plan is to Launch from Belshers slipway at 9.00 am and then depending on the conditions to either paddle up to Salmon Pool Weir on the rising tide and back with the tide or round to Budleigh and back. Off the water by 12.00 and packed up by 12.30. Just bring a snack and drink. Drop boats at Belshers slipway then park at Camperdown Terrace car park.

Jurassic Coast Part 2 - Sunday 16th August - Cancelled

I plan to lead part 2 of this expedition. From the feedback I was given everyone enjoyed the first section from Budleigh to Sidmouth. The target for Part 2 is to run from Sidmouth to Branscombe or Beer and back. I suggest we launch at the slipway at the east end of the beach opposite Rockfish. We can drop boats on the slip and then drive them to the long stay car park about 200m away. I drop a pin in the thread below shortly.

I need to be off the water and packed up by 2.00pm so my suggestion is to meet at 8.45am with an aim to be on the water by 9.30. Bring a snack with lunch on the beach at Sidmouth on our return for those who can stay.

Subject to other leaders coming on the trip there is an option for future skills training in the afternoon if people want more. I am not able to stay.

Sea Kayak trip Sat 15th Aug - Cancelled

This is a friends trip unless a club leader signs up, so outside of the club's indemnity insurance and you should feel comfortable paddling on the sea to join. The plan is to paddle from North Sands Beach in Salcombe towards Prawle Point and back with help from a spring tide. There'll be some rock hopping en route and opportunities for rescue practice. The wind is currently forecast to be F3, gusting F4 with some protection from the cliffs on the way out and it turning to assist us on the way home. The swell is forecast to be up to 0.5 m at 5 s. I'll update plans if the forecast changes.
Meet at North Sands car park at 09:45.

SK wet skills eve weds 12th Teignmouth - any takers?

Does anyone want to paddle from Back beach, Teignmouth, on Weds eve? As usual, this can be a relatively short session and offers a good opportunity to practice rolls, rescues, balance etc.

If no takers, no worries. Maybe the usual crew have had enough now. But I'm just aware I said I'd try to support some more evenings while there's light and warm water.

Explore the Jurassic Coast By Sea Kayak - Sunday 9th & 16th August

I was walking along Sidmouth Seafront today and it occurred to me that we very rarely go east from Exmouth. Whilst Rock hopping opportunities are very limited it is a world famous coast with amazing geology and great ice cream. I plan to put on a series of trips from Budleigh Salterton to Lyme Regis. We can do them as a series of circuits to avoid car shuttles.
Trip 1 Budleigh to Sidmouth Rtn - Sunday 9th August
Trip 2 Sidmouth to Branscombe Rtn
Trip 3 Brnscome to Lyme Rtn

Launching from these beaches will always be a challenge if we have swell from the South or East and so each trip will be conditional on the launching and landing conditions. These will be relatively easy but interesting paddles so suitable for anyone who has paddled previously on the sea. There are car parks close to each launch spot and cafe opportunities for lunch.

The first two target dates will be the 9th & 16th August. Further dates to follow after the Falmouth weekend.

Eclipse Paddle Wednesday 10th August

We have a 95% eclipse happening at about 7.15pm this Wednesday. If anyone fancies viewing the clear sky from the water. I am thinking about launching at Exmouth. Meet at the slipway between the buildings on Shelly Road in Exmouth Docks. To get the best out of this1:25 year event my suggestion is to meet at 6.00pm and to be on the water by 6.30 latest.
