Saturday 4th July - SUP, short-boat, canoes and sit on tops trip to the dart

Saturday 4th July - SUP, short-boat and sit on tops trip to the dart - more info to follow

Jason (short boat kayaker), Emma (Paddleboard Leader) and myself (paddleboard/kayak instructor) are planning to do a gentle tour of the Dart. This is suitable for anyone who has completed a beginners course and has insurance.

Time meet at the Club at 08:30 to load boats and SUPs from 08:30-09:00, The idea will be to lift share as much as possible. Jason has 8 seats and room for 4 kayaks/or several SUPs.
If you have your own equipment or want to meet us there meet at 10:15am at Steamer Quay Car park TQ95AL. This is the last car park at the end of the road by the slipway and rowing club.

Trip- Drive to Totness Steamers Quay and set up equipment (SUPs need a bit of time to inflate). Then we will travel up river for 1hr 30mins and then back so 3hrs total trip.

Food: please bring something to drink and eat on the journey as we will stop for a break half way- however, there is a nice Cafe at the launch point that we can have lunch at after.

Travel back to Exeter for about 15:00

Please post interest below - remember we only have 6 club SUPs so first come first served!

So we can reserve boats and car spaces please could you say what craft you would like and whether you would like a lift

  • Hi,
Ellie and I would love to come along to this.
  • Great! could you say what craft you would like and whether you would like a lift or will driving yourself.

  • Can we add canoes onto this and I'll join you.
  • yes Mike of course!

  • I’ll be up for this next time but unfortunately I am away on a school trip! Have a great time.
  • Shelly. I assume that you are planning to keep paddling above the first weir?
  • Yeh. Probably both kayak, we can drive ourselves, but I do have roof bars so I am able to grab the kayaks too :-)
  • That's how I read it Owen
  • I would like to come, and will need a SUP board, and a lift (no car). Thank you!

  • List so far:
Jason, Natalie & Ellie in short boat kayaks
Shelley, Emma & Ginny on SUPs
    Mike in a canoe

    Transport
    Natalie & Ellie - Car 1
Jason, Shelley, Emma and Ginny - Car 2 (actually a van)
Mike do you want to come with us in Jason's car?

  • Canoe takes up a lot of space. I could take trailer and put sups on that inflated
  • Emma and I do have electric pumps for inflating if needed. The pumps need to be plugged into a car so that has to be factored in i.e. you can't use the second pump unless you have another car to plug it into.

Mike could you discuss whether to take the trailer or the van with Jason directly? I don't want to speak for him and his vehicle, but from my POV transporting SUPs inflated is easier. We may want to consider the weather as if it is hot, having them exposed to the sun may cause them to overheat, glue melt and start to leak air so then better to transport deflated.

apparently its also the dart swim..
    But this shouldn't affect us

  • nb, as this is a club trip, this is covered by club insurance, so dont let that stop you.

  • Hello, i would also be keen to come along. I would like to go on a short boat kayak and could i please get a lift if possible. Thank you:)
  • Hello,
I would still love to come but Ellie isn't so keen.
I can take someone or come along in the van :-)
  • if she wants to jump in the canoe, i have space

Hi Klara, I will be able to give you a lift with kayak. My van can take up to five people with kit inside and four kayaks on top.

Hi Mike S, that should be fine. Please meet up at the climb and we’ll work out the arrangements there.
My van seats 8 but we need space for kit. So I will be able to take 6 realistically.

  • Sorry Shelley. Some other family challenges have come up. Catch you next time. Enjoy your paddle.
  • When we got back from our trip today we found 3 SUP paddles and a paid of lightweight trestles leaning against a boat rack outside the dive shed. I put the SUP paddles away, and put the trestles in the short boat shed on the far left.
I hope you had a good day.
