Sunday 14 June sea kayak trip on the sea : Torquay UPDATED

Following on the from the Set 1 sea kayak courses, there will be a trip on the sea. The aim is for new club sea kayakers, including people who have been on the beginners courses, to have an opportunity to paddle on the sea.

Plan is 8.15am the club or 9.15am at Meadfoot Beach, Torquay. TQ1 2HX. The parking at Meadfoot is along the road, not far from the bandstand. We use the steep steps down onto the beach. We don't use the car park as the slipway from the car park is broken and unusable.

Please check this post on Saturday evening, in case there is a change in the weather forecast.

You can expect to be back at the club c 5pm, possibly a bit earlier. The plan will be for the actual paddling to be around 90 minutes, then lunch, then 90 minutes back. Gentle space to suit the paddlers. Lunch will probably be at Babbacombe Beach.
Please bring helmets.

In terms of experience paddlers should be able to paddle to Double Locks and back comfortably, and know which sea kayak they like to paddle. It will also be necessary to use a spraydeck, and have previously practised a capsize from a SK with a spraydeck, and climbed back in the boat.

  • Going to have to give this a miss :( been called in for work.

  • I will come to the Club and can give transport for 2 others and kayaks - weather looks good!

  • I’m looking forward to it. I am assuming l can use a club helmet and will need a lift please. I will wear a wetsuit top and bring lunch to fit in the kayak. Plenty of water too. This is my first trip so do let me know if there’s anything at all l might forget or not be aware of. Thanks Lara
  • Hi Lara - a lift will not be a problem and you can use club kit. Plenty of water and food is essential and suncream. The toilets at Meadfoot and Babbacombe need a Debit / Credit card to enter (30P) so that would be useful.

  • Lara you may want spare clothes in case of a swim. At least it is forecast lovely. Snacks are good. Sunnies.See you tomorrow.
  • Thanks Nigel, thanks Laura see you tomorrow
  • Brilliant day’s paddle, so good to be back on the sea, with great company, excellent instruction and valuable insights from Jane. Thank you.
  • Great photos. Thanks Nigel & for the lift & encouragement. And thanks to Jane for the trip & Laura. What a day for my first trip out. Yay!
  • Great trip. Thanks Jane.
