Sunday 21 December Sea kayak trip updated * 2
The weather forecast is looking better at last. Trip on Sunday for paddlers with some SK experience. It may in an estuary so that there is some shelter from the elements. HW c 7am, so LW at lunchtime. More details nearer the time.
I am trying to work out where we can go. We need an estuary as the swell is too big for the sea. Plymouth has F3/4 winds from the South, which is lighter than further East. Tidal coeff is 72 so mid tide. It would work for a trip going out with the tide to LW, then back in with the tide and the wind. What we need is a launch point that is not too muddy at mid tide. Saltash is possible, but Plymouth Sound will be quite exposed. Nils says that Kingsbridge slipway at mid tide is BAD.
Final: having looked at the options and the weather I think that Kingswear is our best option. The sides of the estuary offer the best shelter. We'll be going against the tide for quite a bit of the day, but this is possible if we keep to the edges.
Meet 8.30am at the club, or 9.45am at the little slipway next to the sailing club near the lower ferry. Please can you confirm if you will be coming along, and if someone will be going to the club on Sunday morning to load boats, as I will need help to load. Laura I can give you a lift if you would like.
