I'm running a simple trip Sunday morning before the taster sessions. We'll head off from the club down the river to Topsham and then back up the canal.
Meet at the club 0830 to be on the water 0900. High tide 1009.
The trip should take 3.5-4h (including breaks) and is 13km. For context, Double Locks and back is ~4km.
Bring snacks or a light lunch - it's a bit early for a full lunch for me at least.
Info for beginners:
This is a beginner-friendly trip starting and ending from the club - no boat transport needed. The main requirement is that you're happy with the distance. It includes some gentle river and the start of the estuary. There can be some wind as we get into Topsham but it's largely a straightforward paddle. The return is along the canal, which is nice and sheltered. If the weather looks bad, we can use the canal in both directions. There are three points where we get out to carry the boats, and we'll pair up and move them together.
If you only have time for one trip this weekend, I would highly recommend instead signing up to Martin's beginner sea session - it'll be much more exciting/educational! This one is a good trip if the other time doesn't work for you or for anyone who just wants to get some casual distance in.
