Sea Kayak Saturday 11th May Kingswear to Brixham

Looking ahead to next week the tides are right for a Kingswear to Brixham paddle. This is a one way trip with lots of opportunities for rock hopping and exploring on the way. It is a 3 to 4 hour paddle so you need to be paddle fit with experience on the sea. The size of the group will depend on whether other experienced paddlers sign up. Meet at the top of the creak in Kingswear and launch from the slipway in the play area. There is normally free parking if we get there early otherwise park in the pay as you go car parks in Kingswear. Taxi shuttle back from Brixham to pick up cars at the end of the day. High tide at 9.00 am so let’s aim to meet at Kingswear at 9.00 am and be on the water for 9.30 to ensure we have slack tide around Berry Head. We should be packed up and off the water by 3.00pm so back in Exeter for circa 4.00pm. Bring lunch water and normal paddle gear. If collecting boats from the club you need to be loaded and away by 8.15 or pick up boats on Friday evening.

  • Yes please! Great trip!

  • yes please! if anyone is going past the boat could I grab a lift for me and a kayak? :)

  • Sounds great Owen, I'm in. If anyone has space for a lift from the club for me and a boat that would be appreciated (happy to split petrol), that way I could leave the car for my partner to use that day.

  • Would really like to do this but I’m away this weekend
  • I’m up for this! Lucy I can take you & boat.
  • Great! thanksssss :)

  • I'd like to join this! Would anyone be able to give me and a boat a lift?

  • Yes please. I can swing by the club and take a boat / paddler if required, otherwise I will go direct. Please advise.

  • I'd like to do this - I can give you a lift, Catherine?

  • Thanks Tom that'd be great!
  • Hi David, a lift would be great if the club isn't too out of your way?
  • We have a good group and some experienced paddlers so all looking good. Before we depart I do need to ask everyone to confirm that they are suitably paddle fit for circa 4 hours paddling to get round to Brixham. It is not a fitness paddle but we do need to maintain a steady pace to ensure that we do not get caught by adverse tides at Berry Head. The swell is modest but always a bit bumpy round Berry Head. As ever safety comes first and if we set off and have any challenges on route plan B is to just turn round before Berry Head and take the scenic route back around the cliffs. It is bird breeding season and we will need to be careful to keep clear of protected bird breeding cliffs. Looking forward to paddling with you all.
  • Hi Owen, I can confirm I should make it round ok, as long as I bring enough sandwiches!
  • On reflection I have no basis for confidence in my 4hr sea paddle fitness, so it would be sensible to skip this one. I'll do some fitness paddling and catch the next one. Can someone give Rob a lift?

  • Don't worry if no lift is available, I can take my car. Just would prefer to leave it if poss so my partner isn't solo parenting with no car. Catch you next time David.
  • Change of plans for me, I’d like to come now if there’s still space? I can get a lift but will need help transporting a boat if anyone has roof space?
  • Rich. I have roof space but would prefer to travel direct. What do you plan to do for boat logistics?
  • I will call by the Club at 8am if anyone needs a lift. I can carry another two people and boats

  • Nigel, a lift would be great, thanks. If you can take my boat and Rich's boat I think that's everyone accounted for
  • OK - I will be at the club. See you in the morning

  • Nigel would you be able to take a boat for me? I can get a lift with Steph and Lucy - we’ll be at the club by 8 so I can help load up.
  • Rich - yes - see you at the Club

  • Looks we are all sorted for lifts. Please do what you can to arrive by 9.00 so that we can be on the water by 9.30. We have a tide window to get round berry head. It will be a hard slog if we try to get round after 1.00pm. I look forward to seeing you all in the morning. It looks like it will be a sunny day. Bring sun hats and sun cream.
  • Catherine and I are going direct - loaded up tonight

  • It is worth taking a change of clothes in the kayak for the end when you either a) go in the taxi to collect cars or b) wait for the car shuttle to happen.

  • Good spot Nigel. Was just packing my shuttle bag and realised that I had forgotten to highlight.
