White Water Trip, Sunday 5 November ****CANCELLED****
Conditions are easing following the storm! I will offer a white water trip on Sunday, as long as conditions continue to look like being appropriate. The trip can be for canoes and/or kayaks depending upon who wants to join in and what craft they want to paddle. Location to be decided Saturday afternoon when I know more about the likely conditions, who wants to go and their experience levels.
If you are interested but not sure whether to join in, please contact me and we can discuss what is likely to be on offer against your experience. However, I anticipate this trip will be suitable for anyone who has paddled on moving water before, in their chosen craft.
The trip will include training and practice opportunities.
While I have no plans to encourage capsizes, everyone needs to be aware that accidental "chats with the fish" remain real possibilities, so you will need to be dressed to cope with immersion in the water.
Food, a hot drink and spare clothing to be carried in your boat are essential, along with a towel and change of clothes to leave in a car at the finish to go home in.
Meeting time will be 9am at the start point so around 8am at the club for those collecting boats, etc.
As well as boats, everyone needs paddles, buoyancy aid, windproof top, helmet, and for kayaks a spraydeck.
If you know what to do with a throwline, bring one and a river knife.
Maximum 5 participants, unless other leaders join us.
Please reply here with what craft you want to paddle (and can transport yourself if it's a canoe) and, if I'm not familiar with your experience, the level you paddle at.

Hi Brian, this sounds amazing. Just trying to get some things covered at home, but i'm a defiantly maybe. I did the courses and the other trips leading up to the loop last year and am super keen to get into some swash buckling, tree avoiding stuff this year. Have a flask, packed lunch box and room for biscuits... But as yet no roof rack.. would love to use one of the blue Max 9 club boats..

full info - I have my own ww kayak, prefer to meet at club and car share, can carry another kayak if needed

I'm sorry, I have just looked at the predicted levels for tomorrow on the Dart and it looks like being at a fairly good level at 6am but rising such that, by noon it's likely to be rather high so I'm calling the trip off. Hopefully, we'll have better conditions next week.
I looked at the Teign today and there is at least one tree in our way with a challenging portage to get around it and the water is high and likely to be higher tomorrow. Sorry.
