Saturday 3 June sea kayak award paddling day UPDATED

There will be a sea kayak paddle on Saturday 3 June when sea kayakers can demonstrate / learn the skills required for the sea kayak award. The award can be done by continuous assessment. Details of what is involved in the SK award is here:
https://www.exetercanoe.co.uk/discussion/2033/achieving-the-british-canoeing-sea-kayak-award#latest

Meet 8am at the club to load kayaks, or 9.15am at Kingswear, slipway next to the Sailing Club, very close to the lower ferry. There is a car park at the station next to the lower ferry. Trolleys will be useful so please bring one if you have one.
Note for van drivers: the last part of the journey from the lower ferry slipway to the slipway is very narrow, has tight corners and overhanging buildings. Do not attempt this until you have walked there to have a look to see if your vehicle height will clear the obstacles.

Equipment is explained here: https://www.exetercanoeclub.org.uk/sea-kayaking-information/

Please indicate if you can offer a lift for boats to others. Also coins for car parking will be useful.

Please can everyone look up the tide times for Dartmouth, and if possible work out which way the tide will be flowing. Wind forecast and swell forecast will be useful.

Hi, can you put me on the reserve list please and last to be offered since a later comer.

  • Please could I also go on the reserve list
  • Hi my van can take 4 canoes and people which might help with parking and logistics. Let me know if anyone wants to do this.
  • If we're travelling then I can fit two sea kayaks on my roof and four or five paddlers inside.
  • Sorry Jane, but I completely forgot a prior commitment, so will have to pull out. :(
  • I will be at the club at 8.30am. I can take four people and four boats.
  • Hi Jason Please arrive at 8am!

  • Okay will do.
  • Jane. Thanks for the update. I will arrive independently as not heading back to Exeter afterwards. fYI also the Torbay air show this weekend so we may get the odd flypast.
  • Hi Jane and all. If someone is able (and willing) to bring an LV scorpio for me I will meet you in Kingswear, as that makes quite a difference to driving time. But happy to come and help load if better.
  • Hi - would someone be able to take me and a boat from the club please? Happy to pay petrol/parking etc.

Jane - as a very rough guess - when do you think we will be back please? Also just thinking kit wise - is this going to be mostly an in the water session (just planning wetsuits etc!) Thank you
  • Hi again, Shelley is happy to bring me an LV scorpio and helmet in her van if that is ok with you @JaneEvans ? In which case I will meet you all at Kingswear in the morning.

Will check back on here tonight in case I'm needed in Exeter first.
  • To confirm I am coming and bringing my van which can fit 3 boats and 2 passengers, however Anna has asked me to take a boat for her so I have space for one more boat.

KJC do you want to come with me?

  • Thanks Shelley that's very kind of you - as long as someone has space for me and a boat that is perfect 😁
  • Transport plans look good.
You can expect to get wet during the day, but not all day. A wetsuit or similar does make sense.

  • Thanks Jane and all for a thoroughly enjoyable day 😊Also thank you @Christina_Levick for paddling back with me sea sickness overtook πŸ™
  • Oooh I’ve had sea sickness - not nice! I have taken stugeon which seems to do the trick.
