UPDATE, Sea Kayak & Camping Trip 22 April
Open to all but an ideal opportunity to try camping from a sea kayak for the first time.
The pace will be leisurely so will be suitable for new paddlers.
The plan is to meet and launch from Kingswear on Saturday around midday, load boats and then depending on conditions have an explore of the estuary mouth before paddling up the river with the tide to Sharpham with the incoming tide.
The distance is around 13km.
We have reserved exclusive use of the really lovely riverside campsite at Sharpham, which although just a grassy riverside field, does have compost toilets, water and an area where we can have a fire.
We'll head back to Kingswear the next day, arriving around lunchtime on Sunday.
Overnight parking is available at the marina in Kingswear.
The campsite has plenty of space so it can fit many small tents.
There is a cost for the campsite which will be £15.00 per person max depending on the number of people.
Myself and Nigel Sharpe are more than happy to give advice on camping from a kayak, packing and the equipment needed if you're interested in coming but unsure about it.
Update 16th April
Below is a list of people that have said they are coming, if you can't come can you please confirm, so we know the amount of people and car space we need. Can you also confirm if you are not coming to the club and going straight to Kingswear.
The plan will be to meet at the club at 10.30 to load boats and kit. We will try and take the minimum number of vehicles but If you have a vehicle that can carry a boat/s it may be needed.
If anyone can bring wood for a fire that would be great. We'll load what we can into any spare space in the boats.
Cost will depend on final numbers but if you could bring cash on the day that would be easiest, as I've already paid for the campsite.

As evenings get lighter, towards the end of March, I plan to give a demonstration of how I pack my sea kayak for an overnight camp. They are great load carriers!
In the meantime, this a list of what I would consider packing for an overnight trip... (Not everyone would need everything)
OVERNIGHT SEA KAYAK – CAMPING LIST

• Ikea Bags – to carry kit on-shore
• Travelling clothes – to and from get out. Can be left in the car.
• Shore clothes – packed in dry bags for when we get to destination.

o Washing bag (carrier bag will do)

o Tent – one, two or three man - split onto separate dry bags. Poles can be stored at end of kayak.

I'd be interested in a car-share, Jason. I can only get 1-2 kayaks on my roof so it's not the best group vehicle.
